Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

God wants us to separate ourselves from secular society, not by location, but by character. If we claim to be Christians, but still seek the approval of the secular world, then we are enemies of God. 

Many people think that when they do something that is considered avantgarde that they are differentiating themselves from everyone else, but in secular society the prevailing ideal is conformity, even in rebellion. 

Once we become Christians, we should be changed. 

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Romans 12:2

There is nothing more rebellious than Biblical Christianity. It has always been against the grain, we were promised it would be.

Secular society wants us to believe that love of and dependence on self is of the utmost importance, this is in fact the prevailing idea of virtually all other religions, including satanism and thelema, which is closely aligned with satanism. 

Christianity is the complete trust in and dependence on God. 

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Simply put, the Bible is about God asking his people to follow a set of rules and them failing. The old testament is simply God creating covenants with the Jews, they fail, ask for another chance, God gives them another chance, and they fail. The new testament is God saying ok, you can't get it right, so, just trust in Jesus. Basically, Christianity is understanding that we need God...not ourselves.
